The “Codex General Standard for Food Additives” (GSFA, Codex STAN 192-1995) establishes the conditions for the use of permitted food additives in all foods, regardless of whether they have been previously standardized by Codex. The Preamble of the GSFA contains supplementary information to aid in interpreting the data, and users are advised to refer to it when accessing this database.
This database presents the food additive provisions adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission in a searchable format. The provisions can be searched by food additive name or synonym, INS number, functional class, or food category as outlined in Annex B of the Codex GSFA.
Please also be aware that recent summaries and conclusions from JECFA meetings, as well as other relevant information such as calls for data for future meetings, can be found on the FAO and WHO websites.
Note: The Codex General Standard for Food Additives is a work in progress and will be updated regularly to incorporate new food additive provisions adopted by the Codex Alimentarius Commission.
